Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel

When I come back to New York City, I know where I’ll stay. Marlyn, Matthew, and Jason made a hard time much easier, and I won’t forget their kindness. Marlyn was attentive, compassionate, and caring in every interaction. Matthew, who first checked me in, was patient and accommodating when I was going through a difficult time. Jason helped with my bags and was incredibly kind and patient, with a calm manner that made things easier when I needed it. Their service made the Renaissance Hotel feel memorable and comforting. Thank you to all three, and to the hotel. This is truly the best place, and the care I received will stay with me.

I’m spending $3000 here, but still have to go six floors down to the lobby every day just to get water. Two small complimentary bottles a day seem like the least a hotel could offer. A bottle probably costs less than a dollar, so not providing even that feels like zero hospitality.

I found a quiet spot behind the lounge bar that was great for business calls, and the exposed concrete gives the hotel a modern, urban feel. The location at Pelham Station is excellent, with incredible views. The room was compact, as Manhattan rooms often are, but comfortable for one or two people. From arrival through room service, everything surpassed what I expected. I’d gladly stay again.

We were exhausted after a long travel day, and my wife was pregnant and needed to take scheduled medication before lying down for 30 minutes. At check-in, I told the woman at the desk, who was cordial and handled the initial arrival normally. But our room smelled strongly of weed, making my wife nauseous, so she waited in the hall while I went down for another room. The same woman gave me new keys without apologizing. When we got there, it was a room with two double beds, not the king I’d booked, even though she knew I was traveling with my wife. We were dead tired, and the delay pushed back her medication. I went down again. She said there were no rooms with one king. I got short with her and said that wasn’t really my problem since that’s what I booked. She went to speak with her manager, who stayed in the back office, then returned and said they’d found one. The only bright spot in customer service was the staff in the makeshift lounge, since the regular one was under construction. They were warm and polite. I won’t stay here again. Basic service at the front desk seemed like too much to ask.
