A small room, but it was very clean, and the building was so quiet we heard nothing from either the neighbors or the street. The price is great, staff were friendly and accommodating, and the area works perfectly for a long weekend in the city. Bathrooms are shared, with a few on each floor, and you can use one on a different floor in an urgent situation. The neighborhood felt very safe, with great food along Bowery and really friendly vendors. I’d highly recommend this place, especially for a couple on a budget.

The location is genuinely good, with cafes and the city right outside. But you need to decide whether the savings are worth the compromises. The room was reasonably clean and okay if you can handle a closet-sized space, and the service was about as minimal as it gets. Bring earplugs for the noise. Ask for an extra blanket as soon as you check in, because the central ventilation is arctic cold and the provided bedding is scant. Don’t expect an extra pillow, though. There’s no common kitchen, but you can take a cup to reception for hot water, which feels like a small luxury here. New York “affordable” means a significant compromise, and this place is exactly that. If all you need is somewhere basic to crash while you’re out all day, it works. If you’re sensitive to noise or need personal space, the savings aren’t worth it.

Chinatown is a fun area with good food, and there are courthouses and plenty more within walking distance. I’d come back if I needed to. The rooms are small, but I’m used to that in D.C. Beds were comfortable and both the rooms and bathrooms were clean. There’s no elevator, though it still beats paying over 1k a night at other hotels.

The room was minimal but generally clean. Noise was the real problem: we needed earplugs and it was still loud. There are so many rooms on the main floor that people are constantly coming and going, and anything said in the hallway carries to everyone. The shared bathrooms aren’t in the rooms and were less clean. We won’t stay here again at any price. I’ve been in much nicer, cleaner, and quieter hostels.
