The high ceilings and wood floors are nice, and individual staff members are generally friendly. But the ongoing pest problem hasn't been resolved, despite management saying they're working on it. Both units I moved into were uncleaned. In the first, the oven was caked with grease and caught fire the first time I used it. The second had food on the floors and dead pests in traps, despite promises it would be cleaned before move-in. Noise is a real issue near the elevators or facing the train, and makes sleeping difficult. There are also strong smoke smells from other units, frequent elevator outages, and loud barking from neighbors' dogs. Management and maintenance lack professionalism. Emails are poorly communicated, scheduled maintenance times are often ignored, and workers frequently come into units with dirty shoes and leave a mess without apologizing. You have to keep following up to get a response. The payment system feels outdated and insecure, and they sometimes have trouble scanning checks. They've also recently started reporting to credit agencies with no way to opt out. Rent goes up by at least $100 a month each year, with no noticeable improvements to the property.

We've lived at MR for several years and hope we can stay a long time. The people who live here are kind to everyone, and my husband and I are very happy with our apartment and with the office and maintenance staff. They do their best to accommodate our needs and requests. Special thanks to Shanique, the concierge, who came to our rescue during a 911 call I placed. She was professional and gave me peace of mind. I wish I'd read the other negative reviews before moving in. This place is a disaster, and I can't wait for my lease to end. The building has roaches. Exterminators come weekly, but the problem is still out of control. The freight elevator has been broken for two years, which backs up the other two elevators. Moves take a long time, and even the working elevators are constantly shut down for "maintenance." Hallway carpets are stained, and I've seen dog poo there many times. We've also gotten emails about "dog urine" in the halls. Garages have dog poo too, dumpsters are always overflowing, and people leave furniture in the garage when they move out. We constantly smell weed and/or cigarettes in the hallways, and it also comes through the vents into apartments. Neighbors can blast music and be as loud as they want outside quiet hours. The pool area has broken chairs. Kids go without adults and cause chaos, and people bring lots of outside guests. There are rules, but nobody monitors them. The front desk keeps changing its hours and is unattended half the time, so good luck getting packages. If you have a visitor, you may have to meet them in the lobby because no one's there to let them up.

I've been here five years and it's a nice place. I thought having dogs might make it noisy, but I have no complaints. The concierge is friendly and helpful with packages, and maintenance is on it. Shenique is always smiling and happy to help. Our toddler loves seeing her when we go for walks or pick up the mail.

I've lived in Merritt River Apartments for five years, and Shenique has been especially great. She's respectful, responsible, and always smiling when she talks with people. I can trust her with my packages, knowing they're safe. She's the first person I ask when I have a building question or something comes up, because she thinks quickly and always has answers. She keeps things running smoothly and stays on top of residents' requests. Thank you for always doing your best to answer my questions and for the extra work you do for the building!
