My favorite place I've ever stayed, and I've been coming to OC for over 40 years. It's a friendly, secure, relatively quiet community with rental homes and condos suited to families of different sizes. There are two small private beaches and a larger one by the pool. For food, Marusol's has quick coffee or breakfast sandwiches, and there's plenty to eat at the Sunset Island Bar. Everything is arranged around the homes and condos, and the whole place makes you want to settle in and enjoy it.

There’s a mile-long clamshell path around the bay, with beaches and lots of wildlife. Ducks and geese with babies are always swimming around somewhere. A guard is on duty all the time, and the village looks like a movie set, from the scenery and landscaping to the buildings. Everything feels perfect here, such a beautiful spot for a relaxing vacation.

The only real downside on the east canal side was all the duck poop, which made getting around a challenge. Bring a flashlight for nighttime. The rest of this private island was fantastic: you enter through a guarded checkpoint where they point you in the right direction, and there's a posted speed limit of 14 mph. I asked a guard after a couple of days why it was 14, but he knew and wouldn't say. The privately owned homes are great, and the walking path, private beaches, pool, waterfront bar, and market were all bonuses. I also noticed morning CrossFit or total-body workouts by the fountains in the center. I'd highly recommend it if you want a quiet place where you feel safe.

It’s easy to make a family vacation relaxing for parents and fun for kids here. The beach is kept clean, the pool can get crowded, and the island bar has good drinks and food, with attentive waitstaff for anything you might want at the beach. The corner store covers last-minute needs, and there’s a splash pad. Bring scooters for the kids. Other restaurants, mini golf, and shopping are a short walk away. It really has it all.

I stayed there for two weeks while working at ocean calling and country calling. It was fun and beautiful, the gym was pretty dope, and I loved the private beaches ❤️❤️❤️❤️
