I always enjoy staying here, and Russ is a big reason why. His hospitality, kindness, and care made me feel welcome as a person, not just a guest. He goes above and beyond and deserves a raise and promotion. Thanks so much, Russ! I didn’t like how one woman treated me the next morning. At 7am, when I was still sleepy, she kept asking what room I was booked in, as though I wasn’t a guest. When I asked why, she said she’d woken someone up and I looked like I’d just woken up. Well, it was 7am, so how else was I supposed to look? I also overheard workers gossiping that another employee was lazy, even though I’d watched him run himself ragged while they policed the area because I was there or sat around doing nothing. Still, I enjoyed my stay.
After our basketball tournament games, this was a perfect place for our family to settle in. Relatives from the area could come over and make a meal with us. The place looked beautiful inside and out, and the staff were polite and welcoming.
We stayed four days in a suite with two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and an in-suite washer and dryer. At first glance, the place seemed decent and fairly clean, but the stay was frustrating enough that we won’t be back. I called ahead to ask what cooking supplies were included and was told “the basics,” with no list available. I also put in a request during pre-registration for utensils, plates, cups, a pot, colander, frying pan, pizza pan, and slicer. At the desk they said the room was stocked for us. There was dinnerware for three or four, though we’re a family of five, plus a pot and frying pan, but none of the other items. If you plan to cook much, bring what you need. The dishwasher was there, but no soap was provided. We brought some, and there’s a Walmart three minutes away. We were denied complimentary early check-in, which was fine, and I noted we’d need the room by the regular 3pm check-in. We arrived around 3:30 and were told it wasn’t ready, then asked if we could “go find something to do.” After traveling more than five hours with three kids on New Year’s, that wasn’t easy. The attendant didn’t know how long we’d wait and went to check the room. We waited about 10-15 minutes at the desk, and at least the room was ready when they came back. The bathroom sink was clogged. One shower had barely more pressure than a trickle, the other was a little better, and the water was barely warm. Don’t expect a long, relaxing shower. We needed to do laundry the first night, but there was detergent for only one load and no dryer sheets or fabric softener. Boiling a pot of water set off the fire alarm from the heat, so turn on the microwave vent whenever you use the stove or oven. There was only a tiny hand broom, which made cleanup difficult. By day two, the trash cans were overflowing. I thought housekeeping might take the trash or restock supplies, but we were told to take it out ourselves. They don’t provide replacement bags, either. You have to bring your own or request them at the front desk. When I asked for more towels and washcloths, I was told to wash them myself, though by then we’d probably be out of detergent. On the second night, around 11:15, we were woken by loud noise from the room above us. It wasn’t a holiday night anymore. There was stomping, running, furniture moving, and things dropping. The room shook, and no sound machine could drown it out. I waited two hours before calling the desk to ask them to look into it. I don’t think they did, because the noise continued for another hour or so before easing enough to ignore.
We came for the holidays to see extended family in the area. The pet fee was convenient, and the location was walkable. Our room sleeps four, with a private bedroom and a fold-out couch, but we ran out of hot water mid-morning after two showers. The front desk said it was because we’d run the dishwasher the night before, which didn’t make sense to me. A room for four should be able to handle four people taking morning showers. We didn’t have this issue in the spring when we stayed in a two-bedroom, two-bath unit.
We had plenty of space for the whole family during my husband’s birthday weekend, and they made us feel really comfortable. It was just what we needed, and I’ll always check here first when booking trips home to KC. I do wish there’d been a broom in the room. Crumbs happen when you cook and eat, and it would’ve been nice to sweep the kitchen. Still, that was a small thing.
