The cottage had a lovely view of the water and a nice king sized bed, and thankfully Kerrie moved us there because it was cold and windy. She texted that it was cozy, but we weren't told we would be the inn's only guests. I wish we'd known, because we probably would have saved the trip for another time. There was no TV in the cottage. We don't watch much, but some background noise would have been nice. We were given a code for the main building and told we could use it, but there was nobody there. Finding the ice machine and bucket was explained, but the whole place felt eerie. We laughed that it was like being in “The Shining”. We'd booked for our anniversary expecting service, company, and the pastries advertised for breakfast, but were told the restaurant was closed and there were other places nearby. In fact, no restaurants in town were open on Tuesday, the day we arrived. Doc’s Sunset Grille, the only one open that time of year, didn't open until Wednesday. We'd been looking forward to a wonderful experience, and that isn't what we got.

The chocolate mousse was the best part of the meal. My halibut special was on the dry side, though the vegetables were cooked well. The food was okay for the price, but nothing special, and I expected more for what we paid. The location and place are cool. We ate inside and were seated in a very dark area near the entrance, so I'd suggest the outdoor seating or a brighter spot inside.

Breakfast was great, though it costs another $20 per person to order from the menu. The old hotel room we had was by the sea rather than in the hotel, with a sea view and two beach chairs, which was a lovely surprise. It did have an unpleasant smell, maybe from the dirty carpet.

We didn't stay at the inn this time, but they took the time to show us around, and we'd definitely like to stay in the future. The food was wonderful, and the bread is freshly baked in house. The new management clearly cares about history and quality in both the experience and service. As a Constitutional attorney and a teacher of the Revolutionary era, I was truly impressed. We felt blessed by the visit. Go at Christmas, the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

The innkeepers are friendly, honest, and jovial. The setting is wonderful, with peaceful, warm, charming interiors. They offer splendid cooking classes and festive events, and they're "Good" dog friendly. It also seems like a nice place to work.
