We needed somewhere for one night at short notice, and luckily this place had a room. The hotel itself was clean and, though very dated, had some charm. The cafe next door was great too. But getting a good night's sleep was impossible: one neighbor's little dogs chirped all night, another had a big dog barking, and people were yelling at the dogs to quiet down. The couple who seemed to run the hotel were nice and helpful at first, though I assume they're married based on their bickering, which they tried to hide. Then they gave us what they called their "second rate towels," marked with blue dots for the kids so they wouldn't "ruin the nice towels." That was so weird. I paid for a hotel stay, and my kids aren't second-rate guests who should get disposable towels. If you need an affordable emergency stay or a place that takes pets, it might work. If you need to sleep well, I can't recommend it.

The bathroom shower had great pressure, but the shower head was too low. Parking was good as well. The room, on the other hand, was dirty: the floor hadn't been vacuumed, the headboard was extremely dusty, and everything smelled musty and old. There was a bullet hole in the bathroom window, and the AC was very noisy. I wouldn't stay again.

The only real plus was the setting, with lots of trees around. I travel often and stay in motels, and rarely bother with a negative review, but our two weeks at the Lantern Inn were a letdown. The room had lots of stains on the sheets and towels, and the pool area wasn't cleaned during our stay. There was an ashtray, garbage, dirty bandages, and more. We also saw people swimming in their clothes and a dog in the pool. The AC was very old and half broken, though it still worked. We were told by phone we'd get a weekly rate, but it wasn't applied at check-in. We booked over the phone and asked for written confirmation by email. Despite sending many emails and calling several times, we never got it. Although the motel says breakfast is included, it wasn't. The woman in the office only had granola bars to offer and seemed surprised whenever we asked. When you complain, she also acts like she doesn't understand what you're saying. The place accepts all kinds of guests, from homeless or drunk people to groups who are partying. One day a group of drunk people were lying on the ground in my parking spot, so I couldn't park there. This motel could have been really nice with professional management.

The rooms were clean, and having a diner next door was a nice bonus. Bring your own pillow, though, because the ones in the rooms apparently never get replaced. The place is cute but very dated. The managers seemed disorganized and a bit off. They weren't friendly, and they quietly argued at the front desk while we were checking in.

The pool itself was very nice, but the posted rules said it opened at 9 a.m. On the morning of May 6, at 9:10, we let the girls go swim and were told to keep it down because other guests were still asleep. Why have those hours if children can't splash or play? Management warned us from the start that if our four 13-year-olds and one 9-year-old couldn't stay quiet, we might be asked to leave. It felt like we had to walk on eggshells. The place allows pets but definitely doesn't feel kid friendly. Meanwhile, motorcycles were allowed to ride through the parking lot at all hours of the night because they were visiting management.
