The location around Twin Lakes in Paris is very good, the price was fair, and the room heating worked great. I grew up in Paris, Illinois and have stayed here a couple of times while visiting my hometown. Paris is a dying town and isn’t what it was when I was a boy. The rooms are quite adequate, even though an item of clothing was stolen during one visit. Checking in was a hassle. I rang the bell at least five times, then found a Hispanic woman in the hallway or laundry area. She didn’t speak English, but she rang the bell several times too before someone finally came out. I don’t like waiting ten minutes to check in. Breakfast wasn’t available until around 6:30 or later, and I had to ask about it. I was told someone would put things out soon, but there still wasn’t much: a Danish, apples, a few muffins, and generic cereal. The milk was good. I didn’t try the orange juice, and the coffee was good but wasn’t refilled when it ran out. There’s too much dog poop in the yard next to the hotel. They should put up signs asking guests to clean up after their dogs. Parking was adequate, and Pools hardware and convenience store is across the way. The TV is just YouTube live TV, which is okay for a one-night stay. There’s no swimming pool. For food in town, I only recommend Joe’s Pizza near the square and Monical’s Pizza. There’s also a Hardee’s, McDonald’s, I believe a Kentucky fried Chicken, and an Asian buffet. I guess this is a good option if you’re staying in Paris.

The room smelled horribly of cigarette smoke even though it was supposed to be non-smoking. The mattresses were soft and caved in, the carpet was sticky and dirty, and the lights above the sink didn’t work. Breakfast was just two cereals, warm milk, and a package of muffins. We were in town for a funeral and ended up smelling because of the room. It was embarrassing. Worst hotel ever.

I left a day early, but the desk clerk didn’t check me out. My reservation stayed as it was, so now I have to go through corporate to fix it. The hotel won’t answer the phone. There was no hot water, and they didn’t fix it after I told them. There was blood on the wall, the towels were stained, my window was cracked, and the halls smelled of pot. Trash was scattered outside, including an old grill and an empty cooler.

There’s no elevator, but the receptionist was helpful and the room was clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good. This is a great place for travelers. I recommend the family restaurant a little farther down the road.
