Hampton Inn & Suites Portland West

We paid full price for room 304, but none of us got a decent night's sleep, and I still haven't heard back about my complaint. My colleagues in nearby rooms heard the disturbance too, though it was much louder for us because the guests making the noise were directly above our room. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. I booked seven rooms for myself and my medical-worker colleagues on February 21st. We'd driven for hours from New Hampshire to Maine, arrived late, and still had another four-hour drive the next day, so we needed a night's rest. Instead, there was stomping, walking, and things being dropped overhead. I called the front desk six times between midnight and 4 AM and spoke with Manny, but the noise kept starting up again. Around 4 AM I went down to the lobby to talk to the receptionist, Manny. I also told the woman on duty at the front desk that morning and asked the hotel to deal with the problem and prevent it happening again. There seemed to be events or activities that evening, and I understand people may have been busy, but guests still need a chance to sleep. I think the hotel should have quiet hours. I've usually preferred Hampton Inn hotels, and this is the first time I've had a problem like this. Still, my complaint seems to have been ignored, and I haven't heard anything from the hotel.

The staff were friendly and always smiling, and we'd definitely come back. The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, and the location worked perfectly for visiting my sister at New England Rehab. Just remember to request fresh linens ahead of time. We didn't care for the uncomfortable couch.

I trusted the brand without checking reviews or who owned the place, and I won't make that mistake again. The fridge didn't work, so I had to switch rooms. Heating and lighting were terrible, and the towels were paper thin. I went looking for coffee around 4:30 AM, then came back after 5:15 because nobody was around. Someone eventually came out of the kitchen to refill it, apparently also covering the front desk. I said I'd already come down twice. He just said, “Yaa,” and walked away like he couldn't care less. One of my worst hotel stays.

Breakfast and the dining area were a mess. The toaster didn't work, garbage cans were overflowing, and it looked like nobody had cleaned up. I visit the Portland area often, but I won't choose this location again. We stayed three nights. The room itself was nice, but the service was easily the worst we've had at a Hilton property. We normally don't want housekeeping in our room while we're there, so at check-in we asked if we should put anything on the door. We were told no, and given three slips of paper to turn in the night before if we wanted morning housekeeping. After the second night, we came back and found housekeeping had entered anyway. The front desk said the manager would be in the next morning. When we raised it with her, she was nasty, offered no apology, and kept making excuses. She didn't even seem to know about the paper slips, despite being the manager.
