After a Portland Thorns match, I stopped at a convenience store, but the attendant said they’d given me a fork when they hadn’t. It was 1 am by the time I got back to the motel, and the agent on duty was friendly and glad to give me one. Nate at the front desk had also been really kind and accommodating. The location is close to downtown without being right in the middle of it, and the area felt very safe. The rooms were cozy, spacious, and clean, with proper beds. Much better than other local motels I’ve tried. I’d recommend it.
For this kind of hotel, the location near MAX and other transit plus the customer service made it a great fit for us. The rooms were old and a little rundown, sure, but they weren’t gross. We just needed somewhere to sleep while we were in town for a fun event.
Food carts are only a couple of blocks away, and there’s plenty of free parking. Across the street is a green space where you can walk your dog. The SureStay also has a breakfast bar and coffee available all day. I stayed for several nights. Tony, Richard, Nathan, and Jason were friendly and helpful, and knew the area well. The hotel is conveniently close to downtown, Portland State University, and OHSU.
It’s more affordable than other places, but the busy streets mean you’ll hear noise. The hotel could use updates to the decor, weatherproofing, and furnishings. The fridge freezes food, the toilet is low and flushes by itself at random, and the AC was unplugged. Maybe there’s a good reason for that.
The park nearby has a track and soccer field, and the hotel is right off the interstate. The area was nice, but I wouldn’t stay here again. Breakfast was very skimpy: moldy muffins, stale honey nut Cheerios, and some yogurt. I think there may have been toast too, but it wasn’t impressive. What really bothered me was being charged every day for the safe, which I never used or agreed to use. I called and asked them to remove the charges, but they never did.
