The rooms are very small, and my first one had a TV and air conditioning unit that didn't work, so I had to move. Still, I liked that this Marriott had more character than a typical Marriott. It's in a great downtown Portland location, and every staff member I spoke with, including the people at the breakfast bar, was friendly and helpful.

The two-sided elevators open on opposite sides of the lobby, so you have to choose the one for your side of the building. A bit quirky. Also odd for an upscale hotel to have no in-room coffee maker or iron, though they did provide a clothing steamer. The place is quaint.

The rooms are spacious, clean, and bright, and the hotel feels like a quiet, comfortable retreat right in central downtown Portland. Staff were welcoming and attentive. You can get good barista coffee and small bites in the lobby throughout the day, or sit down for a meal or drink at the restaurant and bar. There's also a smaller spot for cocktails and quick finger food. The small basement gym is open 24/7 for a quick workout. Pet-friendly rooms and valet parking are extra perks. A favorite Portland hotel, and well worth staying at.

The room was tiny, with hardly any storage, no closet, and a cramped bathroom with a small shower. The window faced a wall, and the room felt like a closet. I paid a premium in cash and believe we got the worst room in the hotel. The $30 daily fee was just added without much explanation. I've stayed at much better places, like Embassy Suites, for a lot less. Online reviews fooled me, and I'm not happy. The bed seemed great, and there was a small fridge and a TV with an adjustable back. The location is great too. Coffee in the room wasn't provided, and they charge for it in the lobby, though the coffee is pretty good. Service was matter-of-fact, with a focus on selling add-ons.

The Woodlark Hotel was clean and really nice, and the staff were welcoming. Parking downtown can be hard to find, though it's free after 7 p.m. The hotel offers valet parking for $60 a night.
