Motel 6-Reno, NV - Virginia Plumb

Check-in went smoothly, and the woman at the desk was friendly. The room was clean, and I had no issues with the staff. There were two odd things, though: the non-smoking room had a faint smell of “jazz cabbage” (I love that phrase 😄), which made for a funny conversation with my 7-year-old. Also, some people, who I think were guests, were being pretty loud in the parking lot. It was Saturday night, so I can understand that.

The stay was enjoyable, and I appreciated the kind, helpful staff. The location and facilities were good, too. But I care a lot about fire safety and equipment being maintained, and my smoke detector had been disabled and covered with a plastic bag. I had to deal with the problem myself, which wasn't ideal.

The room was clean and quiet, and the staff were friendly. When I asked where to eat, they gave me two good suggestions. I walked to Tokyo Sushi next door to avoid the heavy traffic. There was a long wait, but the food was delicious and worth it. Road work made the area congested, and at times I could smell marijuana outside from the busy dispensary nearby. I like to sleep with the room around 60 degrees, but the only blanket was thin, and the decorative bedspread was even thinner. I would have liked another blanket. I also didn't ask ahead whether there was a microwave or mini-fridge, and there wasn't either. I wouldn't have booked this Motel 6 if I'd known, since I have medication that needs refrigeration. I had booked online, then called to extend by one weekday because I didn't have internet where I was. The price jumped, and I wasn't happy about that.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and when I reported the room problems they offered me better accommodation. The first room wasn't clean; the second one was. The heater/AC in that room still didn't work right, and the parking lot had a lot of snow and slush. Even with those issues, it was a good stay overall. They also offered useful extras, including more Wi-Fi and a nearby place to eat.
