Super 8 Richmond/Chamberlayne Rd

Tanya is always friendly and approachable. I stayed here for almost a month in total, often for a few weeks at a time, and her customer service was easily the best I've seen in RVA. She went above and beyond to make our stays comfortable and didn't let her outside life affect how she worked. The hotel may not be the best or a five-star place, but Tanya's service is superb. She should be promoted to GM of all Super 8s or District Manager. She has what it takes to turn the whole team's customer service around. We love Tanya!

The room was dirty from the floor to the stained, holey sheets and towels. There was no warm blanket, the TV remote was disgusting, and a dirty towel sat behind the bathroom door. The place smelled bad and looked dated and gross from the moment we walked in. Our key was given in a used holder, and the door lock barely worked. I was there with my four-year-old daughter, and we had to jiggle it and try several times. The front desk person had no uniform or name tag. I booked on the Wyndham website because the location and advertised free hot breakfast appealed to me. Breakfast was coffee, odd-looking juice in pitchers, and unwrapped mini muffins. Another uninformed front desk person said each guest could have four muffins. I said we wouldn't even want one. She said breakfast had changed because of COVID, but that was five and a half years ago. I guess the owner should stay a night and try his “free hot breakfast,” maybe they'll let him have five muffins. What a joke. Wyndham has lost me as a customer forever. When I complained through the corporate site, I got a verbatim reply saying they were sorry, had noted my feedback, and would forward it to the property to help ensure a better future stay. The whole thing makes it seem like they either don't check these properties or simply don't care. This place doesn't even deserve one star.

Tonya was the one good part of an otherwise unacceptable stay. She was kind and professional, and tried to make things right. Her help is the only reason we didn't turn around and leave immediately. When the side entry key wouldn't work the next morning, she came to open both the side door and our room door herself. We were assigned first-floor Room 123. The lock flashed red and took at least 30 seconds to open, and the door wouldn't shut properly unless we lifted it and forced it toward the hinges. The windows had no working locks, which felt especially concerning on the ground floor. The room reeked of smoke even though it was designated non-smoking, and the bed was hard, sunken, and among the worst I've slept in at a hotel. The property felt unsafe as soon as we pulled in. A woman walked right toward the front of our car in the driveway with an unsettling glare, and people sat in cars in the lot, apparently loitering or waiting for something. Inside, Tonya did her best to reassure us that we and our belongings would be safe. The poor maintenance, lack of security, and general atmosphere made the stay unpleasant and concerning. The facilities are far below Wyndham's expected standards. Tonya deserves credit, but this hotel shouldn't be listed under the Wyndham brand until serious improvements are made. I won't return or recommend it.

I booked a room from Illinois at 11:00 a.m. and provided my card details. When car trouble kept me from getting there, I called the hotel and learned I needed to cancel by 6:00 p.m. to avoid a charge under their cancellation policy. That cutoff hadn't been clearly explained when I booked, and they didn't refund my payment. I can't recommend the hotel after this experience. They showed little flexibility or understanding toward customers.
