We got the top-floor suite, the largest one, and one pull-out couch was broken. When my daughter tried to rest on it, it started folding in on itself. The place looked fairly clean, but walking barefoot I got pink sperm confetti stuck to my feet. Not the family-stay vibe I wanted. This place presents itself as a “polished hotel,” but it isn’t, and Google Maps lists a complimentary breakfast that isn’t there. It’s basically self-serve like an AirBnb, only with worse access to information and cancellations. The phone number and emails for contacting the host after booking didn’t go through. With an accurate description, a replacement couch, and a different price point, it could be fine. As it is, I feel swindled.

The host was terrible, and the neighbors in the complex were agonizing. Security and neighbors followed us around and harassed our small social gathering all night. We didn’t think six people would be a real disturbance on a Friday night, but by midnight the rental had got so bad we left. It wasn’t worth staying even one night.

The top floor had loads of space and worked well for our fairly large group. The porch was a perfect spot to sit and relax. It’s a beautiful house that’s been converted into a small hotel and event space.

Good value and comfortable beds, but the room layout was awkward with little ones. A loud knocking kept going through the night and kept me awake.

We stayed in the Strong Todd Suite at 7 on Strath, which didn’t look like the website photos. The bedroom and living room connect only if you leave the suite for the public hallway and re-enter, or walk through the bathroom. The “state-of-the-art oversized bath” is actually a small room with a sink, basic Home Depot vanity, toilet, and shower. There’s a big odd piece of weatherstripping at the bedroom threshold. There’s nowhere to put toiletries, and the bathroom items sit on a tray overhanging the vanity, so things keep falling off. The bedroom door opens against the sink, meaning you can’t open it while standing there. The living room side door is so swollen it takes real force to open or close. The mattress at 7 on Strath was wonderful, the kind you’d want at home. That was the end of the good. The heating and air return was so clogged with dust that up to 20% of its open area was blocked. It took two days of asking before someone turned on the building heat and let us override the presets. The fan was running when we arrived, and I had to stand precariously on the mattress to switch it off without turning off the light. Dead bugs were in the fan’s light globe. Both rooms had the promised flat screen TVs, but they were mounted haphazardly. The bedroom cable box, with basic Spectrum cable, was perched on top of the TV; in the living room, it sat on the desk with wires showing above it. There was no phone in the suite. The shower dripped constantly, disturbing our sleep. After I reported it twice, the hotel “engineer” reduced the drip but it continued for our whole stay. He said he’d later fix the toilet paper holder, which was hanging by a thread. There was mold or mildew around the shower base. The shower door was hard to open, and twice one of its two doors fell into the shower while I was opening it. There’s only one towel bar, over the toilet, so a wet towel has to go on the shower door or the lone hook on the living room door. There was no housekeeping, so we had to take out our own trash. The Wi-Fi was only 2 or 3 Mbps, too slow to stream anything, and restarting the cable modem after two complaints made no difference. We rented an EV because the Strathallan and 7 on Strath list EV charging stations. To use one, we had to open an account with a third-party provider with a $40 starting balance, then pay $0.25 per minute to charge, hardly the amenity we expected. It was a buyer-beware lesson. The Strathallan Hotel staff were consistently pleasant and accommodating, especially Assistant Front End Manager Ryan Wade, who went several extra miles to resolve our issues and did everything he could to help. But we’d never stay at 7 on Strath again.
