The elevator was out, so I had to haul all my things upstairs. The woman who checked me in was nice, and after a long drive from Valdosta I went out twice to smoke outside and get food from DoorDash, then went to bed. I left before 10 a.m. the next day. Later, they charged my card $100 on top of the $95 room charge, claiming a smoking fee. I don’t smoke inside, not even at home, and I’ve never had a smoking charge despite traveling for work all the time. I’m a Choice member, too, so this felt like a lousy way to treat a loyal customer. When I called, the man I spoke with accused me of smoking, though I know I didn’t. If I’d done it, I’d own up to it. They took money from my business card for no reason, and neither I, my company, nor my friends will be staying here again. The hotel felt low budget, with people living there and hanging outside drinking, though that part didn’t really bother me. The whole thing was unprofessional. For $20 more, I’d choose one of the much nicer hotels on Dave Lyle Blvd. The area there is nicer and more accommodating, and I’ve never had a problem.

After more than 15 hours on the road, the front desk staffer made a rough day much better. We arrived around 1 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, after leaving another nearby hotel because of a terrible experience. The young man was kind, understanding, and easy to talk to. He connected with us personally and made us feel looked after. We slept really well. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, and we got a suite with a couch that turned out to be surprisingly comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was decent, though some things had been picked over. All the standard queen rooms had been booked, so the busy breakfast made sense. We still found plenty to eat before heading out again. We’d stay here with our family next time we drive down to Florida.

The first room I had here, on the second floor, was better than the one on my next visit. A dog had clearly damaged the remote and bathroom door in that later room. Even so, after staying twice, I’d say the rooms are decent for the price, clean, and more modern than the dump by Carowinds. It’s convenient for getting onto I-77, too. A pretty good stop while traveling.

I couldn’t get into the hotel on the day I was supposed to check in because of an emergency, and they wouldn’t give me even 50 percent back. Then the vending machine swallowed my five-dollar bill. The front desk said it wasn’t their problem, so I got neither a snack nor my money back. The desk chair was ripped, too.
