Studio 6 Rock Hill, SC – Cherry Road

My family and I stayed here for three months, and I came away feeling the owner cares about money more than guests, staff, or repairs. The hotel needs to be knocked down, in my view, not renovated. The hall carpet reeks, and the hallways smell of dirty dog, cigarettes, weed, and people with a strong musty smell. Roaches were crawling on the walls whenever I walked through. In our room, the power went out weekly, the bathroom had mold, and the toilet paper holder was rusty. None of the windows had screens. The place has two floors and no elevator, so someone using a wheelchair couldn't stay here. Towels from housekeeping were filthy and stained. There was a handle with no knob, and a pile of trash in the upstairs laundry room. Staff don't wear uniforms, or even a company shirt, so it's hard to tell who works there. I overheard a housekeeper say she gets $5 per room cleaned. Is that legal? Why isn't she paid hourly? I don't know what to make of the owner, but I got a bad vibe and felt he might be crooked and untrustworthy. Someone should report this place. It feels like somewhere you'd stay only if you had nowhere else and were desperate, not if visiting from out of town. The way it looks and is run might be considered decent in a poor country, but it's not acceptable by American standards.

The bathtub was peeling and filthy, and the bathroom was gross. The TV wouldn't work, but the receptionist came up at 11 p.m. and got it going for us.

The front desk women were really kind and helpful, and I appreciate that the hotel welcomes pets without charging a fee. My room this time was awful, though. There were roaches everywhere. I pulled back the pillows to spray and spotted one right away. The floor and pillowcases were dirty, and the cigarette smell was terrible even though the room was marked non-smoking. I barely slept. I stayed earlier in the year in a room near the front, and that one was clean with no bugs.
