Residence Inn by Marriott Roseville

Having a proper breakfast in the morning matters to me because I have Celiac disease and can’t eat most continental options like toast, bagels, cereal, or English muffins. This hotel offered a real breakfast, and the suite I stayed in was very spacious and comfortable.

We came to the area for the Galleria Mall and Top Golf, and the room layout we like made the trip easy for our family. There were five of us this time, and we’ve stayed here with six before. Our favorite is the studio two bedroom with a king bed, a queen, and a pull out couch. It has two full bathrooms as well as a full kitchen. The indoor pool and hot tub are fun any time of year, and the kids enjoyed the waffle iron at breakfast. It was our first time trying the complimentary breakfast. There wasn’t a huge selection, but what they had was fresh and tasty, and I appreciated the plant based milk option. The rooms are clean, and the staff have always been polite and helpful. We love coming here for little family trips and look forward to another stay.

The upstairs neighbors were easy to hear walking around, which I haven’t encountered at a Marriott before. Still, I liked this hotel. I stayed one uneventful night, which counts as a win for me. The front desk was helpful, let me check in at noon, and gave me four bottles of water and some snacks for free. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good water pressure, and the AC worked. Breakfast was the usual free spread: sausage, eggs, make-your-own waffles, bagels, and cereal. The location is a big plus, close to the mall, Top Golf, Target, and lots of other shops. If you want a regular hotel without frills, this works.

The room access problems left me feeling unsafe and unable to sleep. On Sunday, after we’d moved our things to a replacement room and gone back out, I returned around 1:00 p.m. to find a front desk clerk leaving our room without having told us or explained why he’d gone in. When I asked, he brushed me off and walked away. A guest checking into the room next door then said he’d first been assigned our room. He had tried the door and seen our “Later Please” sign, but his key card still opened it. Our own card then wouldn’t let us in. I was alarmed that multiple people could enter the room assigned to us without our knowledge or consent. The trouble had begun Saturday, when I noticed a foul smell in the room but thought it might clear. By about 11:00 p.m., it was unbearable, like a portable restroom. I saw something odd in the vent and called the front desk three times, speaking with three different clerks to report it and ask to change rooms. Nothing was resolved that night. I woke up in the middle of the night with the odor lingering at the back of my throat. On Sunday, while out running errands with my minor child, I got a call saying another room was ready, so we returned briefly to move our belongings. On Monday, I spoke with managers about both the sanitation issue and the serious security failure. Their response felt dismissive. They offered $40 off a $400 stay, which didn’t reflect what had happened. I told them I felt violated and that my privacy and safety had been compromised. Odor problems can happen, but putting someone else in an occupied room, mishandling room access, and entering without notice are unacceptable. I’m sharing this so corporate leadership will take a serious look and make changes to keep this from happening to other guests.
