We had a two-bed room, but when we came back that night the front desk called asking for more money because there was an additional guest. The room looked like a cage match had been held in it, and the whole place felt sketchy. People in other rooms were smoking weed, and the smell came into ours. I wouldn’t stay again.

The room was basic, which is normal at this price, but the door had holes and didn’t seem secure. We could hear outside noise, and the AC unit was noisy too. The worst part was check-in. The woman handling the night shift was unpleasant, spoke to someone in Indian the whole time, and didn’t make us feel welcome. I understand that updates cost money and can live with simple accommodations. Poor service and cleanliness are unacceptable, though; they don’t cost much and show how guests are regarded. I was happy with Choice Hotels after staying at Sleep Inn in Asheville, but I’ll never stay at an EconoLodge again. Absolutely appalling.

There were roaches running around, which was the last straw. The queen beds had only two small pillows, and I put up with that. I called the front desk to complain, and the woman offered to move me to the second floor. I can’t climb stairs, though, and she replied that it was my checkout date. Jesus, take the wheel! I had to hand the phone to my son. I’m a paying customer, but because my disability keeps me from using the stairs, I was told it was time to check out. As a Choice member, I’ve never had such a disappointing stay.

The TV and remote worked, and at least I didn’t see any bugs. That’s about where the positives end. The room felt dated, the bed was old, and there were cigarette burns in the blankets and pillows. The toilet in room 208 rocked because it wasn’t bolted down. I can overlook how a room looks, but the shower pressure was only average and the water barely got warm on a chilly evening. The interstate location was convenient. I booked after seeing Econo Lodge’s own site show $70 a night, but at around midnight, with rooms available, I was charged $110. That’s a big difference, especially for a room like this. I’d have been less bothered if it cost $50, but at this price I’d spend my money elsewhere next time. I’m writing this about an hour after leaving on 11 /2/ 25.

The room was uncomfortable enough that I slept in all my clothes and still couldn’t settle in. It had stained, outdated furniture, a broken iron, and stains and trash on the floor. It didn’t look like the beds were moved when the room was cleaned. I skipped breakfast, and the place had more of a motel feel than I wanted. The price was good, but I wouldn’t return or recommend it as it is now. With some care and management keeping a closer eye on the cleaning staff, maybe they could turn things around.
