We needed a last-minute room and arrived late with our two infants. We told the attendant about the babies, and he booked us in without saying anything about the room's condition. Inside, nearly every surface was stained, the bedspreads were coming apart, the blinds were broken, and there were no bed skirts. It didn't look properly cleaned or maintained, and we weren't comfortable having our children in there. We went back to the desk and politely asked for a refund. The attendant offered another room, but after seeing the first one, we had no confidence the next would meet basic cleanliness standards. We declined and asked again for our money back, but were refused. The staff seemed friendly, yet nobody had warned us about the room or made a real effort to sort it out. I'd tell anyone considering this place to look elsewhere.

The room was clean and it costs less, but that's about it. Rooms are spartan at best. The front desk phone seems to be disconnected, so I couldn't reach anyone. Clerks were curt or clueless, and when I asked for a checkout receipt, mine looked "mystified" by the request. Checkout is at 11:00, and they mean it. We came back in the morning at 11:15 and were locked out. This place is one step above an hourly motel.

The front desk worker gave me a discount when we really needed it, and I appreciated that a lot. Such great service, thank you so much! It really raised the bar for hotels. I recommend it 10/10.

There's free off-street parking, and the location is handy for nearby businesses, restaurants and liquor stores. It's near the Golden Gate and marina, with an easy 5-10 minute bike ride to the water. The building also felt secure with its front gate. The room could have been in better shape, and the bed was hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was low quality, with too little hot water for a bath or even a decent shower. Checkout took a while because no one was at the front desk for at least 10-15 minutes.

The location is really convenient, which seems to be what you're mostly paying for. The price felt high for the quality of the facilities, though. Our room was a decent size but quite dated, and the sheets were uncomfortable. Cleanliness needs work, and parking is very limited. Not perfect, but it can be a decent San Francisco option if the location suits you.
