Hotel Sunrise

The location was the one thing this place had going for it, and the room did seem clean. But the stay was awful. Street noise was extremely loud, with people drinking and yelling outside the barber shop, and the neighbors were easy to hear too. Inside, the fan didn’t work, there was no smoke alarm, and the shower barely drizzled. The bathroom door opened in a way that meant climbing over the toilet to close it. In the mornings, with no do not disturb sign, the maid would knock and open the door at 11 AM. Asking for towels seemed to bother the staff, and the hand towels and washcloths looked literally shredded. Service sucked, and this exceeded my worst expectations.

It’s a very basic place, but everything else I needed worked. There’s a good fridge, microwave, and TV, and the heater kept the room warm on cold nights. The hairdryer didn’t work, though. There’s no elevator, which seems acceptable for a three-story hotel. Transportation is about a five-minute walk away. You get what you pay for.

I had a great stay. The hotel is dated and definitely not new, but for such a low price the value is outstanding. My room smelled really clean, and during my stay they cleaned it, made the bed, and changed the towels, which I hadn’t expected. The staff were friendly and very accommodating when I arrived at 8 am. The location is probably its strongest point, too.

I’m glad there’s a place like this in the neighborhood for friends and family on a budget. Mine was clean, didn’t smell, and I’ve got no complaints. The location is ideal for visiting SF, with food, parks, coffee shops, and stores all around. It’s a budget hotel, so the rooms are basic, but mine had what I needed, including an opening window and a wall-mounted fan that kept me cool all night. People complaining about room quality seem like snobs to me. What do you expect for $60 in a prime SF location? Fantastic for the price.
