Kimpton Hotel Enso by IHG

The location is amazing, the hotel was mostly quiet, and service was fantastic throughout. Our room was huge and the bed was comfortable, though the space felt a little bare and could use a small couch and table. There was a leak in the bathroom that sent shower water toward the carpet, so we used extra towels. It wasn't a big issue for us. The hairdryer was powerful, the drinks we bought at the bar were pricey but strong, and the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash all smelled great. They even brought a microwave to our room at no charge when I asked if there was one we could use. They also had plenty of items available in case you'd forgotten something at home. There was a bit of city noise, as you'd expect. We'd stay again.

I was there for four nights and had no problems. The room was adequate, the bed comfortable, and both the hotel and surrounding area were very quiet. The location was perfect and peaceful. I'll absolutely stay here on my next visit.

The staff were fantastic, and the free morning coffee and evening happy hour were nice extras. It's a solid four-star property, fairly clean and well maintained. My main issue was the noise from the busy road in Japantown, and sound insulation between rooms could be better. The room could also use more storage.

I expected more from the Enso given its four-star ratings and reviews. Our family stay was okay, but felt overpriced, and the desk staff seemed indifferent and unwelcoming. We'd prepaid for parking, but there was no space available. The nearby public garage was inconvenient because of construction and a busy weekend. Staff didn't offer basic information and seemed put off when we asked for the Wi-Fi password. We were told there was only an unsecured network, which wasn't acceptable. We had two rooms, both spacious for San Francisco and reasonably updated, though the hotel's age showed. One had a leaky shower head and an improperly made bed; the other had no robes. We've also stayed at nearby Kabuki. Enso's rooms are nicer and larger, while Kabuki's lobby is much more comfortable for socializing onsite. Both locations work equally well for visiting Japantown. Calling either one a four-star hotel feels like a stretch.
