Knights Inn San Francisco Near the Presidio

Our stay was unpleasant, even though San Francisco itself is beautiful and well worth visiting. The location is convenient with plenty of restaurants nearby, though I wouldn't recommend walking around late at night. The manager tried to be nice, but made comments about our nationality that felt uncomfortable and over the line, whether or not he meant offense. That's unprofessional. The parking lot sign says rooms 13 and 16 are brand new, but they weren't. I'd avoid them or ask to inspect before checking in. We were first assigned room 16, where the heater was broken and they put an extremely dirty, moldy portable heater on the nightstand. The shower handle was broken too. The manager knew but insisted it worked once you got the hang of it. I thought it was cheap and unprofessional to assign the room before fixing it. We couldn't get the handle working, and even the manager couldn't turn the shower off after turning it on. He eventually called servicemen, but only at the last moment. Room 16 flooded, so we were moved to room 13. The window above the bed in room 13 faced the road, and it was very noisy even when closed. The rails were black with years of dirt and what I guessed might be mold; I didn't inspect further. There were two fridges, one working and one unplugged, which made the room feel like storage. The bedsheets didn't cover the whole bed and kept shifting. We had two very thin pillows that had to be folded twice for neck support, and the blanket was also small and thin. It was cold at night in November. The heater worked the first night but on the second kept cutting out after a minute even though its light stayed on, and we were freezing. The showers were adequate this time.
