The front door locks after midnight, so you have to be buzzed in if you come back late, which can be inconvenient. Our room faced the street and was very noisy, especially at night. The carpet also felt old and dingy enough that we kept our shoes on the whole time. It was an okay stay, but there were a few comfort and convenience problems.

The staff at San Francisco Suite made this stay stand out. They were welcoming and so accommodating, better service than I’ve had at hotels and Airbnbs around the country and abroad. The room had real charm and personality, and the location put restaurants and things to do close by. It feels like a hidden gem, and I hope more people discover it. I’ll definitely be back. Thanks, San Francisco Suite!

There’s loads of space, the location is excellent, and the amenities are very nice. The decor just isn’t quite my taste. If you’re into chandeliers in every room and walls covered with 1800s paintings, you might rate it five stars.

Susan at the front desk was always warm, quick to answer questions, and ready to help. The location was great too, with some way to get anywhere in the city. Our parlor studio, though, was not somewhere we could comfortably stay. The windows were tightly shut and either frosted or faux leaded glass. One small one faced a fire escape with a mop and bucket; the kitchen window looked into the maid’s supply room and, just a few feet away, into the kitchen of a very lovely suit. The queen Murphy bed and uncomfortable sofa bed left a dangerous squeeze to get to the bathroom when both were open. We’d traded a lovely oceanfront condo overlooking Kauai’s best snorkeling cove for this. The hotel could have been comfortable, just not in that room. We’d still like to come back.

We had a one-bedroom suite that slept four in a beautiful place in a nice neighborhood. The evening temperature was kept pretty cool for the first three days, which I really wasn’t a fan of. Also, whenever you left, you had to hand in your room key. After 9 pm, getting back meant ringing the bell, waiting for the person on duty to let you in, then getting your key back. Those two things brought my rating down to four stars.
