The real test for a luxury hotel is how it handles a toddler, not just a powerful guest. At The Palace Hotel, our daughter’s first birthday was met with a warm, thoughtful welcome. The staff made her feel like the guest of honor, and they seemed to anticipate what we needed before we asked. Their manner combined old-school professionalism with a sincere wish to make people happy. In a city of steep hills and high expectations, The Palace has a history and grandeur that could easily rest on its own reputation. Instead, our experience felt carefully handled and personal. At a time when check-ins are automated and service can feel diminished, the human touch here made us feel like lifelong supporters by the time we left. It felt like a historic landmark with the closeness of a private residence. If you want a San Francisco sanctuary with both grandeur and grace, this is the only choice for a discerning traveler.

The staff’s service is what set this place apart for me. Everyone I met around the hotel was friendly, smiling, and ready to help. Lidia, who looks after the fitness center in the morning, was especially kind and helpful. She’s a real treasure for customer service, and they should clone her! After a 12+ hour day and some changes, Cecy (Cecilia) at the on-site Pied Piper was exactly the lift our post-event group needed. She was engaging, had us all laughing, and gave us one of the week’s most memorable experiences. Cecy FTW! The historic building keeps its old-world grandeur while adding contemporary touches. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the fitness center had almost everything needed for a workout and was in excellent condition. I can’t say enough good things about the staff, and I definitely recommend staying here.

The rooms were satisfactory, and the beds were very comfortable, though the desks, controls, bathroom tile, and other surfaces showed wear. The amenities were solid, with a great pool and gym for a weekend stay. What stood out most was the service. I felt welcomed, accommodated, and appreciated as a guest. The Palace Hotel made a remarkable impression, from the sophistication and beauty you notice as soon as you enter.

The Christmas decorations made The Garden Court feel magical, and we enjoyed both the Christmas Brunch and Holiday Tea there. Our suite was spacious and comfortable, and the housekeeping team were always helpful. We picked the Palace Hotel for our 20th wedding anniversary because we wanted somewhere romantic but still family-friendly during our San Francisco vacation. There was a small hiccup at check-in, but management was polite and sorted it out quickly. The manager was wonderful and showed the high level of service we experienced. We had a lovely family trip and are very glad we chose the hotel.
