Taj Campton Place

The omelet and vanilla waffles at breakfast were a highlight, and the Wi-Fi worked well enough for a full day of work. Staff were quick to bring extra pillows when I asked, and the desk team was consistently polite. The rooms were comfortable and housekeeping did a great job. It’s a convenient spot in a nice part of SF, near activities, transit, coffee, and a bar. The restaurant was slow one morning even though we were the only people there, and we were waiting a long time for simple breakfast dishes while trying to get to work. The staff were lovely, but something seemed to hold things up. The hallways and shared spaces look a little dated, though they still have an elegant feel. I had a great stay and would recommend it.

The room was dated, with old carpets and stains on the mirrors and wall. We had booked a double bed room. In the dining room, I felt some servers were giving more attention to certain customers. The breakfast buffet was a joke for $30 per person, with so few choices it didn’t even have basic eggs, so the a-la carte menu ended up saving breakfast. My parents and I chose Taj because the brand had never let us down in India, and I felt some of its hospitality in the San Francisco lobby too. Still, that wasn’t the experience in the dining room. I wouldn’t book Taj Campton Place again unless they seriously renovate the building. I hope they do, because I want Taj to do well outside India. UPDATE: Abhishek from Taj Campton Place called me personally and listened to my feedback. I appreciate that Taj treats negative feedback as a chance to improve. He was polite as I shared what I thought about the property and dining room, and I hope Taj makes improvements to live up to its 5-star rating.

The staff were the best part of our stay, and they worked hard to help us at every stage. We had a great experience in the rooms, and the two baby cribs were already set up and good quality. Breakfast was delicious. Before we checked in, I arrived a few days early while we went to Napa for three days. They kindly stored our wedding clothes and bags, and the person at the front desk noted everything on our reservation so our arrival would go smoothly. We used valet parking, which is expensive, but they also offered us a cheaper lot nearby. We chose not to use it, but appreciated the option. Everything felt 5 star, but the staff were the standout.

The room had a classy look, though it felt a little dated and had some worn spots. There wasn’t a nightstand on my side of the bed, outlets were limited for charging devices, and some old lamps with tungsten bulbs got very hot. Still, we had a great time and I’d like to return to see how things have improved. The staff were attentive and kind, and kept offering to do more to help. The food and drinks were excellent, and the service was second to none.
