The Cartwright Hotel - Union Square BW Premier Collection

We stayed three nights and found it easy to get around on public transport. There were plenty of places to eat within walking distance, which was great. The bathroom was quite small, with no fan or water pressure. We also didn’t have a fridge for food or a safe for valuables.

The nicest part of staying at the Cartwright Hotel over Thanksgiving for the past two years has been the staff. They’re honestly so sweet, kind, and always helpful. The lobby is bright and modern, though the hallways feel dated, as you’d expect in an antique building. The rooms are pretty darn nice and updated, with wood floors, marble bathrooms, very comfortable beds, coffee in the room and good coffee in the lobby each morning, plus a smart TV. It’s half a block from Union Square, close to China Town and Nob Hill, and near all the places we want to go. A pleasant, inexpensive place to stay.

Blue Stone Cafe next door is great for morning coffee, and around the corner Beanstalk Cafe has the best breakfast sandwiches in town. We’ve stayed here twice and will probably keep coming back. The hotel is old but has been reimagined really well. I love the lobby’s green velvet curtains and historic photos. The bed is soft and cozy, and the location can’t be beat. Perfect for a weekend in the city.

I had a great stay and would book here again. The staff are wonderful, the location is great, and my room was nice. They put out coffee and tea in the morning, though there are several restaurants nearby too. One thing to know: I’m fairly small, and the space getting into the shower in my bathroom was quite tight. If you’re larger, let them know, since another room may be different.
