University Club

The staff were really nice and suggested sights to see, but I only learned after the stay that parking had been charged to my card. It was $50 a day for a lot almost three blocks away, with one of those blocks up an incredibly steep hill. The man who checked us in hadn't explained the charge. The room was very small and had no AC. With the window open for airflow, street noise was VERY loud and it was hard to close the curtains, so the room got bright in the morning. We're morning people, so that didn't bother us. The bathroom seemed very clean and fairly new, though the shower took up most of it, leaving little space for the vanity or toilet. I also saw a few German roaches, which left me unsure how to feel. Breakfast was odd: deli meat, bread, pastries, yogurt, and drinks.

The rooms are old, and there's no onsite restaurant or, I think, AC in the rooms, so keep that in mind for summer. The age is part of the charm, though. I liked the classic building and its rooms, halls, and library, which reminded me of an old dorm at Notre Dame or Harvard. If you travel a lot, it feels refreshing to stay somewhere different from a corporate hotel. I can see why people hold wedding receptions here. It's unique and classic.

The views were great, and everything felt clean, well maintained, and well run. The bartenders were amazing, the hors d'oeuvres were delicious, and the catering team was top notch. All in all, excellent service and a great place if you have access to it.
