Sonesta ES Suites San Jose Airport

The two-bedroom setup, with a bathroom for each bedroom, was a lifesaver for our family of five, and the price made booking easy. We also slept well: the room was so quiet that we couldn't hear the neighbors, and nobody complained about our three loud kids. The kitchenette had a full-size fridge and freezer, which helped. Breakfast had a thoughtful selection in a clean cafe, though it wasn't anything special. I can see this apartment-style place working well for travel workers who stay longer. We saw construction workers and travel nurses there. The check-in desk staff were the highlight. The two women were warm and welcoming, and gave us lots of local recommendations. I hadn't signed paper forms at check-in in ages. There was no digital check-in or key option, which felt like a throwback. The room was okay for our two nights. The linens and surfaces were clean, and we felt safe despite the somewhat rough neighborhood. A few things were annoying: the phone buttons weren't labeled, two drains didn't work, and one bathroom had visible piles of dust in the corners. The TVs only had basic channels, with no streaming or way to connect our own device. My kids got a sharp reminder of life before streaming. There were also repairs needed on the faucet and bath drains. Powdered coffee creamer and bar soap were provided. This felt more like a weekend at your auntie's apartment than a luxury hotel. The decor was dated, and she seemed to have done what she could with the existing layout and Home Goods clearance finds. It wasn't fully dusted, and the corners and baseboards could've used a scrub. Still, it did the job. We probably wouldn't choose it again.

The combination of the surroundings and the room left us disappointed, especially for the price. Outside, several RVs lined the front entrance, and there was a noticeable amount of trash. The area felt uncomfortable as a result. Inside, there were long strands of hair on the bedding and a spider in the sink. These details made it hard to feel at ease or confident about the room's cleanliness. I hope management addresses this for future guests.

Reyna makes check-in easy. She’s friendly, helpful, and has my reservation ready when I arrive. I've stayed at this location a couple of times, and it's been a great experience each time. The rooms are always clean, and the staff are so nice. I'll keep staying here whenever I visit San Jose.

The property has really declined under its ownership, whether that was the previous owners or the new ones. There aren't desks in the rooms for people traveling for work, and next time I'll stay at the Hilton Homewood Suites. I've been to this Sonesta ES many times over the past two years, but my 1.26-1.31 visit was my last. Winter Storm Fern hit the SE on Saturday and Sunday in Jan 2026, canceling my Monday flight. I couldn't leave NC until Tuesday. The hotel wouldn't make an accommodation: I was told to keep the reservation and pay for Monday night or book again at a higher rate. I kept the room so I could go straight there when I arrived. On Tuesday, they still had to check whether my room was ready, even though I'd paid for that night. My King Suite wasn't clean and ready for me. The manager offered a two-bedroom suite and waived parking, but that wasn't an upgrade for one person. Its beds were Queen size, while my booking was for a King. Neither bathroom had hand soap, and there were no travel toiletries apart from makeup remover packets. The last straw was the rodents. Squirrels and rats were all over the walkways, outdoor garbage areas, and parking lot. I felt on edge the whole trip when I should've been able to relax.
