Sunbeam Motel

We were impressed by how friendly Jerry was and how well he communicated. I started calling it "Jerry's place" because he gave our requests extra attention and went above and beyond. The motel’s location is handy when moving kids into dorms, since it’s so close to campus. Our room was clean, as were the shower and linens, and the bed was comfortable. Just remember it’s a motel and set your expectations accordingly. Compared with the San Luis Inn, where we stayed during summer orientation, this place was a step up. It’s just up the street on the same side. The San Luis Inn had a pool, but the rooms there were smaller and not as clean. Book early. If you can avoid peak school events, the listed $79 is a solid deal. Prices based on demand can be more than 2.5 times the regular off-season rate. Even at $250 per night, it worked really well for move-in, and Jerry’s hospitality made the cost less painful. We’ll book again.

The staff were incredibly friendly, much nicer than at the Lamplighter Inn. It’s right by downtown, too, and a great deal for the price.

There are a few places to park outside the lot, which helps since parking there is limited. The price, service, and location were all good, but the sheets still had hair from previous guests, so they weren’t clean.

A few things feel a little rough around the edges, but nothing seemed grimy or dirty. The room was clean, had what we needed, and the bed was comfortable. It also had both a heater and air conditioning. For the price, it’s a great choice. We had a great stay.
