Value Place Shreveport, LA (Airport)

We were looking for a place in the Shreveport area after some unfortunate circumstances. The price and rating seemed reasonable, and the website photos made the rooms look clean and nice, but our room didn't look like them at all. The person who checked us in was friendly enough, though we had to ask where our room was and how to get to the elevator. At first the front desk appeared closed. Later, someone who looked like maintenance went upstairs carrying a chair and a can of beer, stumbling, and there was a strong marijuana smell. We encountered more of that odor in our hallway, along with a barking dog. With no carpet, the noise carried clearly. The room wasn't very clean, which was surprising for a Choice Hotels property. The mattresses had no pads, and I found a long black hair when I pulled back the covers. The bathroom was decent, but the fixtures were dated and the light fixture was rusty. The towels looked brand new, though they hadn't even been washed before being put out. It was a poor experience for a hotel under a well-known name like Choice Hotels.

Roaches were all over the room, including crawling on my child and me while we slept and getting into my child's ear. The bed was covered with roaches and baby roaches, so we had to sleep in chairs. I asked at check-in whether they had a bug problem and was told no. I recorded that conversation and have more than 50 videos showing how infested the room is. When I called the front desk, they said they don't give refunds and told me to deal with it. I contacted corporate, and they got in touch with the general manager, but he never called me. Instead, another worker came down. She had a dot tattoo on her forehead and a nasty attitude. She said she could give me a refund, but that all I could do was check out and a refund might come through in seven days. When I asked for that in writing, she refused and said I'd have to come back at 10 a.m. to speak to the manager. I recorded her too, and she was very rude. I'm currently contacting the health department and the BBB, and speaking with a lawyer. If my money isn't returned today, I'll take legal action. This place needs to be shut down. The workers are rude, and the general manager couldn't even be bothered to call. The health department will be paying them a visit.

The rooms turned out much nicer than I expected when I booked. There's a small kitchenette, a full-size fridge, laundry on site, and vending machines. Entry is by key, which feels safer. It's the lowest-cost extended-stay hotel in the area, and you get more than your money's worth. The staff are very friendly, and I'd highly recommend staying here if you need a place in the Shreveport area.

I've been here two weeks and haven't had room service even once. The bathroom light has been out since I arrived, and nobody I've spoken to has done anything about it. I've had to bring disinfecting wipes and my own towels, and no one has been around to give me fresh towels or toilet paper. I even see staff cleaning other rooms in the hallway when I leave for work, but come back to find mine untouched. Staying here means paying to do your own room service.
