The room itself had a dirty sock tucked in a corner, and some towels had black marks that looked like pubic hair. The bathroom outlet also didn’t work. The bigger problem started in the hallway: the whole floor smelled awful, and then we saw a cockroach crawling along it. After that, the stay felt really unsanitary. The smell was less noticeable once we were in our room, but the stairwell was disgusting, and it got worse the higher we went. We’d already had trouble at check-in, when the self-service kiosk charged my card twice. The front desk guy helped us with that, but the extra charge was a big headache when we were traveling on a tight budget and had to wait days for a refund. We chose the hotel because it was cheap and kept our expectations low. Maybe we’re just not used to bugs like that coming from the Midwest.
Takela is professional and helpful, and every staff member I’ve dealt with has made for a great visit. The lobby stays clean, and my room is always spotless. I love this property and come back whenever I’m in town. 10/10.
I’m back in my home state now, and I’m still trying to get the duplicate charge fixed. I emailed the manager using the contact details on a business card from the desk, but haven’t heard back. Each time I called, including today, Monday, there was no manager on site. Staff kept telling me they could sort it out when the manager arrived, but nobody seemed to know when that would be. I booked and paid through hotels.com for a family event over the weekend. At the hotel, I entered the details hotels.com emailed me into the lobby kiosk, and it charged my card again. I reported it at the desk and was told a manager had to handle the issue.
The way they handled the payments and move-out was awful. Management changed a few weeks ago, then gave us two weeks’ notice that the price was going up by $100. They claimed we owed more than the weekly rate and had been behind since February, even though we’d caught up on the payments we missed that month and had heard nothing about owing more until May. They made us pay what they said was due or leave, along with 13 other families. We’d been there since December 18th without a problem until the week of May 6th. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There was no compassion or willingness to work with families who needed a place to stay, and the demands around fees and prices felt crooked. There were problems with the room too. The bed rails in the handicap rooms were off track, so the bed board kept sliding out, and the beds were low. There was no shower rod, so we had to get one ourselves for our young daughter, who is handicap. The room also lacked the laundry basket it should have had. Housekeeping sometimes came in at odd hours, even while we were sleeping, unless the security lock was on. That made us feel unsafe about our belongings.
We heard loud screaming both inside and outside the hotel, and it made us seriously question our safety. At check-in, the front desk ignored our early check-in request and said the room might not be ready until 5-7 PM, even though regular check-in is at 3 PM. Terrible customer service. I’d avoid this hotel chain.
