Fortland was just right for a quiet break. The island and the fort are great to explore, and Stefan’s tour of the fort is one you shouldn’t miss. We enjoyed the peaceful beach walks and having time alone together. Getting there and settling in was easy, the staff were accommodating, and the accommodations were exceptional. We’ll return.
Our only regret was booking just one night. I surprised my spouse with an overnight at Fortland for our first wedding anniversary, and it ended up being our favorite part of the New England trip. Everything was well thought out and maintained. We had a wonderful time from arrival to departure, exploring the fort and beaches.
The beaches were beautiful, and we had fun finding so much sea glass. Exploring the forts and tunnels was an amazing experience. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, which made our recent trip to Fortland even better. It really is a magical place and a hidden gem worth visiting. We can’t wait to go back. The island was so peaceful and relaxing, and the pickup and drop-off went smoothly. Everyone on staff was friendly. Our yurt had high-quality linens and blankets and was well equipped, which we appreciated during a chilly weekend late in the season. Amazing adventure, gorgeous views, cool history, and island life. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for those things!
We didn’t stay overnight, but the setup looked like it would make for a memorable camping trip or event. We visited Fortland on a boat tour of the bay, and getting a tour from Stefan, the owner, was a real treat. His passion for the place comes through, and it’s amazing to see such an old, historic site brought back to life in a creative way. One of the coolest and most unexpected things we did in Portland.
