Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Spartanburg-North by IHG

The lock on the door near room 101 didn't work. It opened without a room key, and I told the man at the front desk. A woman staying in 101 with her grandkids said it had been broken for her entire stay, too. It was still never fixed while we were there. Safety clearly isn't getting the attention it needs. This is an older hotel in a small town, but the cleaning needs more care. Our bathtub was old and chipping, and the floors needed attention. There was also disgusting buildup on the locks inside the door frames. I was here briefly for work, and my team plans to come back in a few weeks. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, though. It felt like Motel 6 dressed up in a suit. Maybe that's par for the course in this city, but Greenville is only 25 minutes away, so I'd stay there instead. If anyone on our team does return, we'll take pictures and a video of that broken lock if the problem is still there.

I've never had a bad Holiday Inn experience before this location. The front desk guy was rude and unfriendly, and I'm unhappy with how the room was handled. I asked to have the beds changed, but they left me sheets to do it myself. When I asked for room cleaning the next day, they only left towels. There was a hair on the shower wall from before our stay, and they didn't clean it when I asked about the bathroom. The pool was cold, despite their claim that it was heated.

Those pillows were top tier. I haven't slept that well in a long time, and the large, comfortable room helped. The staff were amazing, and the amenities were great. I especially liked the Dove shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, it felt like a spa day. The breakfast attendants really made my morning and clearly do a wonderful job. I've stayed at lots of hotels, and this one went beyond what I expected. I'd absolutely go back.
