The room itself was about what you’d expect from a one- or two-star hotel, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. But the sheets were visibly stained and had a noticeable amount of hair on them, both towels were stained, and one was torn. The towel I used to dry my face smelled and didn’t feel clean. There were also food leftovers rotting in the fridge that housekeeping had missed. We had to try three sets of keys before one worked, after they finally moved us to another room. The location felt very unsafe for our family, especially with our baby. I went out for food and saw a crowd of more than 50 people in what looked like a tent city. There was also an alley in the middle of the parking lot where about six people appeared to live, less than ten feet from our room. One person had a needle in his leg and seemed to be using drugs, though I can’t confirm what was in it. They even asked me for a lighter while I was trying to take their picture for Hotwire. We booked through a Hotwire hot deal, so we didn’t know the hotel until afterward. The reviews we checked turned out to be accurate, but Hotwire wouldn’t let us cancel. We complained to both the hotel and Hotwire, and the property refused a refund when Hotwire contacted them. It was a frustrating night for my family. I wouldn’t bring children here or stay if you’re uneasy in rough neighborhoods. If you bring your own sheets, avoid the fridge, and can sleep with one eye open, maybe you’ll get 37 minutes of rest for the $150 CAD.
