La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Spokane Downtown

There were a couple of downsides: a puppy left in the room next door howled for most of the day and night, and the breakfast sausage tasted off. We’d hoped for bacon, but staff said it cost too much in Spokane, which I understand and don’t hold against them. Still, this was the best of the few Wyndham locations we’ve stayed at this year. The room was clean, with no hairs on the bed and fresh smelling sheets. The staff were great, prices better, and we’ll definitely stay here again when we’re back in Spokane.

I’d consider staying again if it stays cheaper than the alternatives. The hotel was decently clean, in reasonable condition, and pet friendly, with ample fenced parking and free breakfast. The property itself seemed okay, though the area is rough, one of the worst in town. It felt like a place where police get called to the 711, and I probably wouldn’t bring kids. Breakfast was free, but too gross to eat: powdered eggs and thick coffee. I was surprised to see a tip box when staff weren’t serving us, breakfast was included, and the food wasn’t good. Beds were firm, like sleeping on a box, and the pillows were lumpy and inconsistent. Room temperature was hard to manage too: 78 felt freezing, while 73 sometimes felt hot.

The room itself was comfortable and nicely kept, though the sink had blood in it, the toilet hadn't been flushed, and the Wi-Fi was pretty poor. But I felt uneasy from the moment we arrived. I travel for work and have stayed in plenty of rough places, and this hotel's location felt especially sketchy. The 7-11 across the street had around 20 or more homeless people gathered there, shuffling around and nodding off outside all night. We heard what sounded like 6-8 gunshots as we pulled in, and I worried about my truck being broken into. I didn't feel safe. This city has fallen.

The La Quinta Hotel in downtown Spokane, WA was decent enough inside, and the service was okay. Outside, though, there were lots of drug addicts and thieves hanging around. A wallet was stolen in the lobby, and even though the thief was caught on camera, the hotel didn't report it to the police. When I called the police, they said they wouldn't come collect the footage and asked the hotel to send it online. After many calls to both the hotel and police, no one investigated or caught the robber. Nobody seems to be doing anything, and the criminals are getting bolder.
