Davenport Hotel, Autograph Collection

We went to the Davenport for a Candlelight concert and were really taken with the building. The ornate rooms made it feel like stepping into a Great Gatsby movie, with Spanish Renaissance, art deco, and French neoclassical touches. We didn't stay overnight, but it seems like a special setting for an occasion, and we know we'll be back.

The staff found a room for our family on a packed, stressful evening, and they were wonderful about it. We'd booked through Expedia, which had overbooked the hotel, so our family of four was split up and we had to pay for an unexpected extra room. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the food and service were great. The hotel's history and displays could keep you busy for hours. It was a special experience despite the booking problem, and we'd return. I'd book directly with the hotel next time.

Christmas is a lovely time to stay, with the hotel dressed up all over and a huge tree in the lobby. We’ve stayed here before and look forward to coming back. The bars and restaurant had helpful, kind staff, and we enjoyed the food. The historic Davenport is a beautiful place throughout, from the lobby to the rooms, and the early 19th century architecture is magnificent. It's also an easy walk to lots of fun spots downtown.

We had a great meal and service in the Peacock Room on the main floor, and enjoyed talking with the bartenders at the bar. My husband surprised me with a night here just before Valentine's Day. The room included champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, which were lovely. I only wish there'd been a mini-fridge. We'll be back.
