The short rib came with fresh steamed vegetables, polenta, and a lovely dark gravy. The food and plates were hot, as they should be, and it was delicious, like good old home cooking. As always, food is why we go to 10 Acres, and we’ve never been disappointed at the Bistro. We’re well-traveled, have properties in three countries, and know global food experiences, so we can vouch that Bistro at Ten Acres is the real deal. Don’t expect standard pizza or burgers and fries. Our server and the rest of the staff were attentive and great. I had a nice glass of cabernet, and my wife enjoyed classic margaritas. We asked to move tables, and the check-in girl was happy to help. We sat beside a large table of business people talking, but the noise was perfectly fine because the restaurant has invested in acoustic balancing and sound deadening. Just look up.

The short ribs with polenta and vegetables were so good, and my wife loved her salmon too. Aaron took great care of us, and the salted caramel cheesecake was a lovely finish. Definitely worth it.

We came for dinner twice, and the two visits were all over the place. On a quiet weeknight, the salmon, pork shank, and burger were excellent, and the mussels were solid. The burger with aioli and roasted potatoes was especially good, made with locally ground meat. They quickly fixed the missed bacon, and the tiramisu made in house was good too. The cheese and charcuterie plate was a letdown: a big piece of burrata, some cheddar and blue cheese, five salami slices, a great spicy, savory jam, and five oversized pickles instead of small cornichons. The old fashioned was mediocre with two cherries, and the Maple Manhattan had no cherry. Oddly, on our weekend return, my gin and tonic arrived like a gin martini, maybe with lemon juice. Perhaps the bartender had started a Bee’s Knees out of habit and sent it over. The cheeseburgers also tasted more grilled than they had on our first visit, and one order was missing aioli. The farmhouse is charming, though the few decorative items on the shelves were scattered around and only on the bottom shelves. Service was S L O W. My companions were lovely, which kept the meal from being miserable. This place could be great if they get a few more things right.

The warm, very Vermont atmosphere and good service made a great dinner even better. The mussels were incredible, and the pork shank came out tender and perfectly cooked.

The food was fine when it finally came, apart from one forgotten dish, and we had to find our own utensils. We also had to get up again to track down the check. The manager said only the forgotten item could be removed from the bill. We were there for a special family occasion, an 80th birthday, and the night was a mess from the start. Drinks took more than 40 minutes, and nobody took our food order until over an hour after we sat down. More than 30 minutes after ordering, we were told three dishes were unavailable, with barely an apology. After two hours we went to ask about our food and remind the staff we were still there. Staff seemed unprepared, and were glaring and laughing at us as if they had given up on the table and wanted us gone. One dish was forgotten, and staff lied about it. This was one of the most comically awful restaurant and service experiences I’ve had. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy.
