Royal Palms Motel

The cozy, rustic look was right up our alley, and the retro feel was a nice bonus. It felt more like a cottage or cabin than a motel, and was just right for our little family’s needs. The Royal Palm Motel was a blessing after a travel site left us stranded in the Stuart area on a Friday night with a tight budget and nowhere to stay. The staff were very helpful.

I stayed for a few weeks and found the rooms clean, nice, and completely safe. They have different room types, including ones with kitchens and smoking rooms, plus weekly rates. The owner is a really nice guy, and it’s a family owned business. Walk-ins are welcome anytime, and not needing to book online makes things easy.

I was thinking of staying here when I visit family in Stuart in August, for old times’ sake, but the pictures posted have put me off. I looked at the room and exterior photos because dear family friends, Pete & Eleanor Cecilio, owned this little place from the 1960's through the 1990's, when it was the Ranch Grande Motel. They’ve both passed away. My uncle was married to their daughter. Back then it was a great motel, with sparkling clean rooms, bedding, and bathrooms. I hope the current owners will clean it up. It’s a piece of Old Florida and a golden gem that could be restored to its original 5-Star shape. It wouldn’t take much, just some fresh bedspreads, bath linens, shower curtains, paintings, and new furnishings in an Old Florida Coastal style. You could get a little more $$$ if you did. I’d even like to come down and put those things in myself.

For about 15 years, I’ve stayed here many times, usually for around 30 days at a stretch while working assignments. I’m always looked after, the beds are comfortable, and the price stays competitive. I’ve made a point of getting to know the staff, and they’ve been friendly in return. I recommend it enthusiastically.
