Masters Inn Tuscaloosa

There was noise all night, and I was glad I'd packed a sound machine. The staff were as accommodating as they could be in such an old building, but several walls and parts of the ceiling were cracked or falling apart, leaving openings for pests. It badly needs a full renovation. The chemical smell seems meant to cover up an old musty, moldy odor. The sheets had several stains, and the towels looked like they'd been used for 10 years or more, so I went to Walmart to buy my own towels and flip-flops for showering. I slept between my two blankets with my own pillow so I wouldn't have to touch the sheets. This is a rundown, low-class hotel without luxuries, and I guess the price tells you what to expect.

A lot of men were staying there, and they made me feel weird. I told two people about it, but only one did anything, and I respect her for that. The other thing they should improve is breakfast. They need something like a waffle maker at least. The desk staff were nice, and the room itself was pretty good overall. We were meant to get a non-smoking room, but it smelled of smoke. It took two tries to find one that didn't smell bad. I know the staff can't make guests follow the no-smoking rule, but it still wasn't a good experience on that front.

I couldn't sleep in the room. It was filthy, with cracks in the walls, roaches, a disgusting bathroom, and sheets that looked like they hadn't been changed in months. The TV seemed like an 1980 model, and there wasn't even a phone to call the front desk. When I returned to the desk, they refused to refund me, so I left without staying and drove three hours home. I'd give this motel negative five if I could. Don't book here for any reason. The photos look nothing like the real place. I've never reviewed a business before, even after a bad experience, but this one is an exception. I read the reviews before booking and ignored the negative ones, thinking some people just complain. I've travelled all over the states, and this was the worst I've seen.

This was the only room available for more than a hundred miles, and we had no idea it could be this terrible. People were wandering around the parking lot pulling on car door handles, and we didn't feel safe at all. While we tried to check in, we saw someone drag a drunk or high person into a room. When we got our keys, the room doors were already unlocked. The rooms hadn't been cleaned or made up, some looked like people had just slept in them, and used food wrappers were scattered around. The place smelled awful. We returned the keys immediately and left without staying.
