The cabins and bath house had plenty of hot water, and the restrooms were clean. Twin Lakes RV Resort sits on a peninsula between the Pamlico River and Chocowinity Bay, with water access for boating and fishing. It's the only RV resort in Beaufort County and has built a reputation for a safe, family-friendly stay with southern hospitality. Some modern manufactured homes are also on the property, including records for 1618 Memory Lane. RV sites are spacious and suit big rigs. Amenities include two pools, a clubhouse lounge, dog park, laundry, and game room. Organized activities often feature music, crafts, and a golf cart parade. It's near Washington, NC's historic waterfront district and is a key destination for outdoor enthusiasts in eastern North Carolina.

We’ve been very happy at Twin Lakes Campground and would recommend it for an overnight stop or a longer stay. It's also part of the Thousand Trails system. Services are easy to reach: Chocowinity is about five minutes away, while Washington is around seven minutes in the other direction, with grocery stores including Walmart, restaurants, medical facilities, shopping, and more. Stay options include overnight and monthly sites, seasonal and permanent spots for RVs and park models, plus small housekeeping cabins with heat and A/C for people traveling without an RV. The camp store is well stocked with just about anything you might need, and has an ice cream counter. Bathrooms and combination shower houses are clean, and the on-site laundry is handy for longer visits. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Entry is controlled by a gate buzz-in and swipe card, which adds peace of mind. They also have trash disposal, propane fills, and RV pump-outs. If you only need a pump-out, you can call ahead, pull in, and be on your way. At the time of this review, it cost just $10. It really makes RV life easy and comfortable.

The pool wasn't open, which was disappointing because our son had been looking forward to swimming. We also lost much of our time outside because our pull-through site was so close to a neighbor's sewage. Their black tank tubing was coiled against our fire pit, and the smell was awful whenever we went out. On our first full day, a Sunday, I called the number on the pamphlet and left a message asking to move somewhere that didn't smell or sit so close to the neighbor's sewage. Nobody got back to us or helped. A few days later, we had to call maintenance because the neighbor's sewage was backed up and overflowing onto the ground. Gross. At one point our own black tank wouldn't drain either. Maintenance told us it was a holding tank that needed emptying and emptied it promptly, but we wish we'd known so we could have kept an eye on it. The whole situation really put a damper on our stay.

My husband had fun catching bluegill with crickets, and we both thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Michelle, Jasmine, and the other staff we met were kind and helpful, and the residents were friendly. The cabins, laundry room, and ice cream shop were all well maintained. Great stay!

Twin Lakes used to be the place to go, but now it feels like a bougie live-in trailer park instead of a fun weekend getaway. As a yearly paying customer, I think it's a complete disgrace. I'd guess that 90% or even all of the employees live there, along with about a third of the paying campground section. The place has lost the value, fun, attention, and planning that used to go into weekend entertainment and real family activities. When the site Facebook page keeps asking people to pick up packages because the store's designated area is overflowing, that's a sign. The grounds aren't maintained and the paths are awful. The weekend event calendar is a joke, with half-hearted effort, and the music isn't worth getting into. I paid $5,400 or more per year, multiplied by the number of camp spots, and activities and entertainment should be better than this. The store seems to make up its own hours, opening and closing when it likes, as though managing it as a business is just an obligation. The store and game room close way too early. You have to get ice cream before you even start cooking dinner because the store may close early, so there's no ice cream at sunset, like eating dessert before dinner. The employees' and full-time residents' trailers aren't maintained, and somehow their yards are the worst. It's easy to tell them apart when you see them. The pools are closed more often than open. A dark cloud 75 miles away at 11 AM can mean they're shut for the rest of the day. Every maintenance person has a terrible attitude when asked to do their job and look into a paying customer's issue. Apparently I've made someone get off their trailer couch to assess a problem. This isn't worth the yearly cost as a weekend or vacation getaway anymore. It feels run like Section 8 housing. That's the sad truth.
