Magnuson Hotel Wauseon

I was outside in the cold waiting for the desk person to let me check in. The room was terrible: the TV didn’t work, and while I was making the bed for my boys, a bed bug crawled across my finger. The receptionist didn’t seem to care and just told me how to request a refund. I filed, but it was denied. I’d been in the room for only five minutes, and the $65 was down the drain. Terrible experience.

The room reeked of cigarette smoke even though it was supposed to be non-smoking, so I canceled. They charged me for every night and said they would refund all but two. Eleven days later, I still hadn’t received any refund at all.

I called around 30 times trying to get a room, but nobody answered. When I arrived, the office door was locked even though a sign said it was open, and no one was around. I knocked and rang the bell for about ten minutes, then went to the first open room door and knocked to find management. A man there called the manager, and a kid let me into the office to wait while she walked over from her room at the motel. We waited 15 minutes. The kid even said it shouldn’t have taken so long, and ran to get her. Another five to ten minutes passed before she came over. I asked about the monthly rate. She told us they weren’t renting rooms because they were remodeling and fixing pipes. She was maskless, with her stomach hanging out of her shirt, and fixing her ponytail while talking to us. A note on the office door, a voicemail message, or telling us when the maintenance guy called her to say we were there would have saved our time. I’m not happy with the whole situation.

I didn’t stay, and they lost a customer. I asked the room rate, then found out they wanted $25 for a pet. No thanks, I went across the street, where it was $15 for a pet. By the way, Magnuson recently bought this motel. I sure hope they renovate.
