Super 8 by Wyndham Wells

The front desk folks were helpful and friendly, and the room had clearly been cleaned and looked after. A few things were a bit beat up, like the trim and some patched dents in the wall, but nothing changed that impression. For a few nights, this place does the job. It isn’t the Ritz, though you’re not paying Ritz prices either. Clean rooms and decent service go a long way.

The towels and bedding looked questionable, and the toilet and tub/shower were filthy enough to turn your stomach. The staff were obnoxious and seemed intent on keeping your money. The exterior and lobby were badly neglected, and the room was even worse. I’d insist on seeing it before letting them charge your card. It looked like a motel that rents rooms by the hour. Don’t trust reviews above 2, they can’t be real. There are much better choices in Wells.

We were so disgusted that none of us slept under the covers. The bathroom was dirty, with hair still in the shower, and a spider web stretched from the wall to our pillows. The floors felt like they might give way, and the top three stairs were very soft and rotten. One guest said his room smelled of urine, another mentioned peeling paint in the shower. Our beds were hard, the ceiling had a big, clumsy-looking patch, and two of our three lamps didn’t work. When my husband checked the cord on one, its bulb sparked and burst. This was the nastiest hotel we’ve ever stayed in, according to the large group of us who were there. Highly recommend you don’t stay here.

After driving 12 hours, I reached the motel in a snowstorm feeling pretty panicked, and the manager made me feel welcome right away. He was so friendly and went out of his way to help. The place is pet friendly, so my dog and I both got a restful night. For the price, I couldn’t believe the amenities, including breakfast. The room was very clean and comfy, and I slept great. I believe it’s under new management, and that new manager is wonderful. I’d highly recommend it and would book again if I’m back this way.
