I spent several months here while relocating to Kansas, when the property was operating as the Red Roof Inn & Conference Center. Some people on staff treated me very well: the Latina housekeeping team and Latino maintenance worker were consistently kind, hardworking, trustworthy, and professional, and several front desk attendants were also wonderful. This review isn’t meant to reflect badly on every employee. The hotel is affordable and may work as temporary housing for people in transition, but our stay became increasingly stressful because of management’s conduct and decisions, along with long-standing safety concerns. I won’t stay here again or book with this ownership group on future trips. Hospitality should involve respect, professionalism, and guest comfort, and those weren’t priorities under the management we experienced. The building was worn down and outdated during our 5-6 months there, and many online photos didn’t match what we found. The pool was drained and had been in disrepair for a long time, the ice machines were broken, the on-site restaurants had been closed for years, and the “gym” was just one aging elliptical. The hotel has a new name after losing the Red Roof franchise, but ownership is unchanged. It was previously run by Kellogg Hospitality LLC, owned by Karnail Singh, Naresh Patel, and Jigna Patel. The building, owners, and much of the furniture and infrastructure remain the same. Around New Year, Meet and his elderly parents took over day-to-day operations as on-site managers. They were personal associates of the owners. The place immediately felt less welcoming. Guests and most staff were generally courteous to one another, but Meet and his parents were often unfriendly, ignored greetings, and could be openly hostile. They glared at guests from doorways, halls, and the housekeeping supply room, listened in on personal conversations, and watched people come and go in a way that felt intrusive rather than protective. They also accused guests verbally without proof, and didn’t apologize when shown evidence that the guests were innocent. Housekeeping had previously been optional or schedulable. Under Meet and his parents it became mandatory every other day, at unpredictable times, regardless of work, medical needs, or sleep. Meet’s parents came into guest rooms without announcing themselves alongside housekeeping to “inspect” them. They looked through personal belongings and took things like towel sets or toilet paper if they thought a room had “too much.” Limiting guests to two towels a day felt demeaning and unnecessary. The housekeeping staff were excellent, but the new rules visibly micromanaged and overworked them, treating them more like servants than employees. After the business responded, I checked the records: the Kansas Secretary of State lists the Kellogg Hospitality business license as active at 6815 W Kellogg. The Kansas Department of Agriculture says Nguyen Golden Hotel is operating without a lodging license and has several violations. I included screenshots as proof.
I can’t say much about the property itself since I was there for a party. The conference room held more than about 50 people, and an adjoining second room was being used too. It was about as large as the first. If you need room for a crowd, this place might work.
I stayed here back when it was a Red Roof, and I wish the new owners would put money into fixing the rooms. The toilet paper holder is coming off the wall, the toilet leaks at the base, and the faucet isn’t attached to the sink. Instead, they painted everything neon yellow and put plastic flowers outside every room, which looks kind of gaudy. The nice grassy area has also been left unkempt, which is a shame for those of us traveling with dogs.
Way better than the last place. I recommend the golden shower.
Great people. I really liked the maintenance guys, they were very kind.
