Golden Rail Motel

The exterior looks fabulous after the remodel, especially the new rails and door colors, and I liked the quiet location and access to Montego Bay water park. The staff were very helpful when we asked to move from room 201, which was falling apart and wouldn’t cool down even with the AC running. I wouldn’t recommend that room; it needs major repairs. The furniture, room, and linens also weren’t as clean as I’d expect for $219 a night. We’d been coming to the GRM for decades, then took a few years off. It seemed better cared for back when Rocco and his wife were there, and I’m not sure we’ll return under the current owners.

Room 308 was a good one, with a cold fridge, comfy beds, and a brand-new pullout couch. The bathroom was lovely, with vintage tile and a porcelain or ceramic tub, and the hot water just kept coming. The huge screened window let in a great beach breeze, and some nights we didn’t need AC. The unit also looked brand new. The pool was awesome and eight feet deep, though having it open only from 10am was a bit of a bummer. We could also use the sister hotel across the street, where the water slides were fast and awesome. The place seems to be in a transition, but we weren’t disappointed: the rails are new, no longer golden, and the doors are a soft beachy blue. There was a small hole in the bedroom wall, about the size of a dollar bill or maybe smaller, and the bedroom door and vent into the living room needed dusting and a good clean. The shower curtain rod was nearly done for. Thanks for having us.

I got home today after staying Friday through Tuesday. The room had no issues, and everyone we met was nice to hang out with. The price was great for the location, so I’ve found my go-to motel. Next time, please give me room 207, lol.

This was my fourth visit, and things were fine for me. The location is great, and the young woman checking us in early was a nice help. I already knew from past stays that the place is outdated, and they’re renovating rooms now under new management. They’re affiliated with Montego.
