Kingsmill Resort

We were there for a banquet, and the buffet food was warm. The open bar was the best part. Our door wouldn’t shut properly, so locking it meant putting your shoulder into it.

The waterfront view and amenities were nice, but we had a stressful stay after traveling all the way from Michigan. Our condo had three connected rooms, a full kitchen, and a family room. In one bedroom off the main living area, the bathroom had visible mildew or mold on the walls and ceiling, and the toilet leaked. We were first told there were no other condos. Then they offered one room in another building, which would have split up our family. Maintenance said they planned to scrub the wall and paint over whatever was left. That didn’t seem like a proper or thorough way to deal with the mold. After several problems, we said we’d rather get a refund than keep changing rooms. Suddenly another condo was available, and we were asked to move everyone again. Moving more than once during the holiday period was really disruptive. The Christmas buffet breakfast was cold, and we found bugs in the rooms. Service was okay, but the maintenance and cleanliness problems made the trip much more stressful than relaxing.

The staff were wonderful and accommodating, and there’s plenty of parking. Kingsmill Resort works for a quiet solo break, couples, weddings, or family get-togethers. It’s a peaceful, well-kept gated property with beautiful sunrise and sunset views over the James River or golf course. There are several places to eat, and room delivery is available if you’d rather stay in. Lodging ranges from single rooms and one-bedroom condos with fireplaces and full kitchens to adjoining rooms, cottages, and a mansion, with space for groups of one to twenty. Guests can use the golf course, store and carts, full gym, indoor pool, summer outdoor pools, and marina. Grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, and Busch Gardens are close by. I’d recommend Kingsmill Resort for a relaxing short escape or longer stay, any time of year.

We come back every Thanksgiving, and the stay is great from beginning to end, including the lovely dinner at the Clubhouse. The River Condos have a tremendous view, and the rooms are thoughtfully arranged and clean. There are lots of amenities and plenty of delicious food choices. Every staff member has been top notch, helpful, engaging, and professional. We also really like their partnership with Patriot Shuttle service.
