Hilton Garden Inn Winston-Salem/Hanes Mall

The stay was pleasant aside from one frustrating issue: there wasn’t hot water early in the morning. I had appointments and needed to shower around 5:30 a.m., but the water from both the shower and sink was cold. I don’t know whether the hot water runs on a timer.

After a bad Airbnb experience, we needed a hotel at the last minute. Valarie at the front desk helped us figure out how to book and got us into a room right away. She was friendly and really helpful.

The hotel is in good shape and the area felt safe, so I expected a nicer stay. But it was hard to get help. I could hear employees talking, while several guests stood waiting at the front desk and no one came out. Our room smelled like body odor, and the two-queen booking for me and my two children came with only two towels. I went down to ask for another towel before dinner, but again there was no one at the desk at first. When someone finally showed up, she was unfriendly and said she didn’t think there were any towels. She looked, then said she didn’t know where to find them and I could check back later. That’s not acceptable, Hilton, especially with the guarantee posted in the room. We were only staying one quick night, or I would have gone somewhere else.

No late checkout? Other Hilton hotels give it. What’s the point of being a Diamond member? I definitely won’t stay at this location again. Get it together.
