Amber's Inn & Suites

Amber’s Inn and Suites has that small-town, quiet, safe feeling I like, even in a busy tourist town. I especially appreciated how the concierge gave me a map, circled my room, and explained exactly how to find it. The property is small enough that getting lost would be impossible, unlike those huge water park resorts with several buildings and parking lots. The room was big and clean, with the usual hotel amenities. It does look a little dated, but that quaint retro atmosphere is exactly my kind of place. For an intimate weekend as a couple or a solo getaway, I’d choose Amber’s Inn and Suites over the bigger resorts any time.

At night the motel has a lovely atmosphere, and you can sit outside the rooms and chat with the neighbors. It has a southern New Orleans kind of feel. The main strip in the Dells is walkable, and it’s handy for getting on and off the roads. For the price, I think this is the best place in the Dells. Our rooms were huge and clean, and the room facilities, games room, and jacuzzi were much better than I’d expect from a 2-star place. The discounts and water park tickets were a great bonus, too.

The room was spacious, and the huge hot tub was relaxing. The attendant was very friendly, though I’m not sure we’d stay again. Cleaning was inconsistent. On the second day, the housekeeper, maybe two younger men, made the bed and tucked in the covers, but the pillows looked like they’d just been tossed on.

I’m pretty picky about where I sleep, and I usually book the big waterpark resorts, but I’d choose this motel again. The staff are so friendly, the rooms are roomy and clean, and the family atmosphere is a lot of fun. The owners have put so much thought into the beautiful, clean grounds. There’s a sparkling pool, a cute playground, an outdoor ping pong table, and a little retro game room. You can borrow birdies and rackets, a volleyball, or a basketball from the office. Housekeeping starts a fire every evening. Just adorable. I can’t recommend it enough.
