The room was good and the price was reasonable, but the owner was very rude to us. I felt uncomfortable there.
They charge extra for required registration, restrict shower use, and come into your room without permission. There were plenty of other problems too. They also list the place on Airbnb, where the reviews are very poor. Read some of them and see how hostile the owner’s replies are.
The kitchen was the main issue during our month-long stay. They advertise it as functional, but there are no cooking utensils and frying is strictly banned. The owner said boiling was allowed, so we bought a small pot and made simple breakfasts. We never cooked lunch or dinner, and always cleaned up after ourselves, even doing other guests’ dishes. Still, the owner got angry when we boiled instant noodles and frozen dumplings. There are four rooms in the guest house. The shower in the men’s bathroom barely trickles. There are two bathrooms, one for men and one for women, and on some days the men’s room was so dirty we cleaned it ourselves. At the time there were eight male guests plus the owner sharing that one bathroom and no female guests, so we asked to use the women’s bathroom. The owner agreed as long as no women were staying there. One morning, with no female guests in the house, I went into that bathroom and found the toilet dirty. I cleaned and flushed it but didn’t use it. I’m in the habit of keeping things clean, though I know other guests aren’t always like that. The owner immediately shouted at me and accused me of using the women’s bathroom. They wanted us out with six days still left, and refused to refund those days, so we called the tourist police. The owner told the police, who mediated, that they would pay us back in 1-5 days. We left without the refund. Later the owner messaged me to say they wouldn’t pay after all because our month-long discount no longer applied since we hadn’t stayed the full month, and said we owed them instead. I had to send the message back to the police and wait for what happens next. The registration and tax charge is calculated by the day, so the total is higher than the listed price. We paid 430 USD for one room for 28 days. If the owner sees this, please stop sending insulting messages and speak directly to the tourist police. The CCTV footage and our chat history recorded what happened. Please just give the evidence to the police.
We stayed for a month, and it was a really bad experience. The owners sit at the only table, so there’s nowhere to eat, and eating in the room isn’t allowed either. They don’t want guests cooking, and there’s only one men’s bathroom with a weak shower. When lots of men are staying, it gets very dirty. The lady shouted at us instead of trying to fix problems. They don’t seem to understand hospitality or customer service. Don’t stay here.
After four months of traveling abroad, this is the first negative review I’ve written. They insulted us, asking, “Are you human or what?” because we used the room’s shower, which they said had caused a sewer blockage. They even threatened to report our passport details to the police. Nobody told us at check-in that the shower couldn’t be used. Had we known, we wouldn’t have stayed. They also demanded an extra payment, saying it was a government tax for accommodation registration. We’d already been in the country for ten days, and no other hotel owner had asked us for money for that reason. Even after we paid, they never gave us an accommodation registration card. People like this bring shame on Uzbekistan and shouldn’t work in hospitality. I know they’re only a small part of the population, though. Despite what happened, I still love the country and plan to return to this lovely land.
