Yen Homestay

The location made it easy to feel like we were living among locals, away from Hanoi’s tourist areas. Yen, the owner, was very kind and friendly. She even offered to take us to the countryside where her parents live, for free, since she goes there every weekend. Our room was spacious and clean, and had its own key. The toilet and shower are shared with just one other room. There are only two rooms for rent in the apartment, so it’s very quiet. We could use a washing machine for free and dry clothes on the terrace. There’s also a small private jacuzzi and sauna for a fee, and we had them to ourselves. Nghia Tan local market is a 10-minute walk away. It’s lively from early morning until evening, with lots of really good, inexpensive street food, usually €1-2 per dish. A nearby bus station gets you to the Old Quarter in 30 minutes. We also walked through the park for 20 minutes to the Ethnology Museum, which was beautiful and really interesting.

It’s lovely to find such a peaceful, welcoming place in Hanoi. What stayed with me was how warm and friendly she was, so sweet and gentle. The house’s amenities made everyone in our group comfortable. I was a little short yesterday, but she still did everything she could to help our friends rest on a cold Hanoi night. The house is quiet and feels very secure. The landlady is incredibly helpful and enthusiastic, so everyone can feel at ease.
