Saigon Marvel Hostel

We slept OK, though we were probably exhausted. The price was the only reason I’d give this place a star, just 4 dollars a night. The location was a plus too, around the corner from a nice pub street. The room smelled unpleasant and there was hair everywhere, including in the beds. The bathroom was much too small and very dirty, as if it hadn’t been cleaned in days or weeks. After checking out, we came back later for our suitcases and saw the same sheets on the bed for the next guests, with the same spots and holes.

The staff were very cordial and helpful, but the stay was still unenjoyable for my friends and me. The air conditioning was turned almost all the way off, so the room was extremely hot. Our shower wouldn’t drain, leaving us standing in the previous person’s water, and there was no soap at the sink. Some people seemed to live in the dorm rooms instead of staying just a few nights. One especially irritable man told my friends not to talk at 13:00 in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I can’t give this place a good review.

The staff were understanding, and most were kind of nice. It was cheap, but I can’t say the visit was good. My girlfriend’s spaghetti with meat sauce was a small portion and the meat was chewy. The burger came in a soup plate about 20min after the pasta. Its bun was very soft, and the patty seemed to be three nuggets or something. We weren’t happy at all.

The street around the hostel was pretty nice for partying, though that also meant constant background noise. Inside, the smell of mold hit as soon as I walked into the room, with a huge patch on the ceiling right above one of the beds. The vinyl flooring was rotting, and the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Together, it made for a pretty miserable place to stay. Possibly one of the worst places I’ve stayed in a long time. Avoid it like the plague.
